Texas Children’s, Methodist Announces $520 Million West Houston Campus
Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus, the first community children’s hospital to be built in the Greater Houston area outside of the Texas Medical Center, will be among the nation’s largest suburban pediatric hospitals.
Located on 55 acres in Wolff Companies’ Ten Oaks development at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Barker-Cypress Road, the $220 million facility is designed to incorporate the best practices in pediatric treatment environments and provide the special accommodations that families need in a children’s medical facility. The new hospital will include a 280,000 square-foot inpatient facility and a 198,000 square-foot outpatient clinic with physician offices. David and Mary Wolff donated 10 acres of the site to Texas Children’s Hospital to help make the new West Campus a reality.
Mark Wallace, President and CEO of Texas Children’s Hospital shares his vision of their new campus in Ten Oaks with Wolff Companies’ Chairman David S. Wolff.
Texas Children’s Hospital is one of the country’s leading pediatric healthcare organizations, so we are extremely pleased that the new West Campus in Ten Oaks will serve families throughout West Houston. Texas Children’s research determined that explosive population growth will make the area the epicenter of Houston by the year 2010, with an estimated 51 percent of pediatric population growth between 2000 and 2015.
Complementing Texas Children’s facilities, The Methodist Hospital System has acquired the 86 acres immediately west of Ten Oaks and is expected to break ground on its new medical complex this summer. Methodist’s first phase will be a $300 million hospital and medical office building project. By late 2008, more than $500 million of medical facilities will be under construction at this intersection. Both institutions expect the medical complex to be open in 2010.
Through a public/private partnership with Harris County, Wolff Companies is contributing a portion of the right of way and construction costs to extend Park Row through Ten Oaks to the City of Katy. Harris County identified the need to complete the connection of Park Row, a major artery that parallels I-10, given the amount of growth projected in this region. With Park Row in place from the Energy Corridor to Katy, drivers will have a convenient alternative to travel along I-10, improving mobility in the area.
Wolff Companies has 23 acres available in Ten Oaks that is well positioned for office, medical office, hotel, retail and other commercial uses that complement and support the West Houston Medical Complex.
