Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus Celebrates “Topping Out”
Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus recently celebrated its “topping out.” Located on 55 acres in Wolff Companies’ Ten Oaks development at Interstate 10 and Barker Cypress in West Houston, the $220 million facility will be among the nation’s largest suburban pediatric hospitals and will serve one of the country’s fastest growing child populations – West Houston, Katy, Brookshire, Brenham and communities throughout the region. TCH’s West Campus is Houston’s first community hospital designed, built and staffed for children.
“Building our first community hospital has been a dream come true for Texas Children’s Hospital,” said President and CEO Mark A. Wallace. “The new West Campus will provide families in the rapidly growing West Houston area with extended access to Texas Children’s world-renowned family-centered pediatric healthcare services.”
Adjacent to Texas Children’s Hospital the Methodist Hospital System is well under construction on its 86 acres. Methodist’s first phase is a $300 million hospital and medical office building project. Together, Texas Children’s and Methodist Hospital’s first phases aggregate more than 1,200,000 square feet and over $500 million of medical facilities under construction. Both medical facilities are scheduled to open in 2010
Along with this intensified development in the area comes the need for greater mobility and access. Through a public/private partnership with Harris County, Wolff Companies and other land owners have contributed the right-of-way and a portion of the construction costs to extend Park Row through the new 170 acre Medical Center – West, which includes Ten Oaks. The roadway expansion provides improved access for Wolff Companies’ remaining available sites in Ten Oaks.
