Rimkus Consulting Group Moves Headquarters from Greenway Plaza to Energy Corridor
By SARA SAMORA
HOUSTON – Rimkus Consulting Group Inc., a forensic engineering, technical consulting and expert witness service firm based in Houston, has moved its headquarters across town.
The consulting firm previously occupied about 36,000 square feet at 8 Greenway Plaza for 30 years, according to a Dec. 1 press release and a company spokesperson.
The firm’s new office is in the Woodbranch Plaza III building, at 12140 Wickchester Lane, in the Energy Corridor. It will span approximately 50,300 square feet across two floors of the LEED Silver-certified building.
Rimkus hired Perrin Projects to design the new office, Office Pavilion for furniture and Cannon Enterprises to build out the space. Fritsche Anderson Realty Partners handled the closing and managed Rimkus’ relocation.
The move is effective Dec. 1.
“We’ve served our global clientele based from our Houston headquarters for more than 30 years, and we’re excited to begin this next chapter in a new, innovative space that reflects our team’s forward-thinking and refreshed approach to client service,” said Curtis Brown, chairman of the board of Rimkus.
In the new space, the firm will have upgraded features such as a combination of open workspace and executive offices, floor-to-ceiling glass with high-end finishes, multiple conference rooms per floor for collaborative meetings, and coffee and break rooms with an on-site café along with a fitness facility. The building also is surrounded by green space with walking paths and water features.
Rimkus has over 85 offices with 900 employees across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, according to the press release. The company did not respond to the Houston Business Journal’s inquiry about the total number of employees at its headquarters office. The release notes that some Rimkus employees have had to work in the office during Covid-19, but many have been working from home.
“Despite 2020 bringing challenges to businesses worldwide, Rimkus has achieved a monumental year following four acquisitions, practice area expansions, and now our new office space,” said Robert Kocher, president and CEO of Rimkus. “When it is safe for employees to return to the office, we are excited to welcome them with an upgraded, innovative workspace.”
The Rimkus lease is a bright spot for the Energy Corridor’s office market, which has struggled in recent years. After losing several large office tenants from the industry that gave the area its name, the Energy Corridor has struggled to fill the millions of square feet of office space left behind.
David Wolff, chairman and president of Houston-based Wolff Cos., recently told the HBJ it’s possible Covid-19 will open up new opportunities for the Energy Corridor that might not have existed otherwise.
“There is no question the office market in the Energy Corridor has faced some challenges,” Wolff said. “Losing Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips (moving to the ConocoPhillips Center on the other side of Interstate 10) left a huge amount of space on the market. But the Energy Corridor has so much going for it, even outside of the energy industry.”
