Houston developer to break ground on 800-home community in Waller
An 800-home community will break ground soon in Waller, as residential growth continues northwest of Houston.
Oakberry Trails, a 215-acre master-planned community by Houston-based Ryko Development is being built on ranchland 17 miles northwest of Cypress.
“Ryko was drawn to the Waller area because of its potential for growth and the exciting developments happening along the (Highway) 290 corridor,” Abdul Barazi, company vice president, said in an email. “The attraction to Waller was also practical: It offered a peaceful, natural environment combined with the convenience of being close to shopping centers and having easy access to downtown.”
The project’s name is a nod to the land’s former owners, the Berry family, which sold it to Ryko two years ago, Barazi said. Ryko plans to transform a barn on the property into a youth gaming center and a horse arena into an event pavilion. A farmhouse-style community center also will be built.
A former fishing pond and cattle watering hole will also be put to use in the new development, which will include green spaces and trails.
Home sales will begin in summer with prices starting in the low-$300,000s, according to Ryko. Homebuilders Chesmar Homes, K. Hovnanian Homes, Lennar and Village Builders will offer a variety of floorplans.
While the first residents could move in by the end of 2024, it could four to five years for the community to complete, Barazi said.
Ryko Development also has communities such as Lakes on Eldrige in west Houston and Lakes of Bella Terra in Richmond.
