Offshore driller Noble Corp. to spend $15 million in Westchase office renovation

Offshore drilling company Noble Corp. will spend $15 million to renovate its new headquarters in CityWestPlace in west Houston, according to a state filing.

The energy giant will move to a 110,250-square-foot space in the Westchase campus located at 2101 CityWest Boulevard early next year. The newer, more modern building will have its sixth floor remodeled to fit the specifications of its new tenant. The work is expected to start as soon as July and be finished by December, per state filings.

Noble has long been a fixture in Sugar Land, leasing two locations on Dairy Ashford and Reed Road for approximately two decades. It announced its move out of its headquarters in April, after inking the biggest direct new lease signed in the first quarter, according to industry research firm Savills.

The move is part of a larger trend of companies searching for newer and more modern buildings like the Energy Corridor, Memorial City, and CityCentre instead of the typical downtown offices. For Noble, the decision to move their 400 employees rested not just on wanting a new state-of-the-art-building, but on reducing commute times for its employees who live in Houston’s western suburbs.

Noble spokesperson Christine Mathers told Marissa Luck of the Houston Chronicle that the move to west Houston would “provide closer proximity to home for more of our employee base with room to grow should we need to scale up in the future.”

Mark O’Donnell, president at Savills in Texas, co-represented Noble Corp. in lease negotiations and stated that the company explored a variety of options in Houston including Uptown/Galleria, Energy Corridor, and West Houston.

Noble signed on to a long-term lease across three floors at CityWestPlace with a substantial concession package and exterior signage, according to Savills. Noble will occupy 50,000 square feet of space on the sixth floor, with a training center and other departments occupying space on the first and second floors totaling almost 60,000 square feet. The new space will prioritize a “flexible design” that will work with the company’s “more flexible work model geared towards efficiency,” Savills stated in a press release.

“The center will showcase the company’s technological and training capabilities and an impressive welcoming experience for clients and customers,” Savills added.
