Another luxury apartment complex is underway in the Energy Corridor, continuing the booming multifamily construction trend in Houston.

The Worthing Cos. of Atlanta will construct the 342-unit luxury complex on a nine-acre site in the Wolff Cos.’ Central Park, a 78-acre mixed-use development located on the north side of Interstate 10 between North Eldridge Parkway and Highway 6 in the Energy Corridor. Construction on the project, called The Heights at Park Row, has begun and will be ready for lease by October.

“The exceptional quality of The Worthing Companies’ properties and plans for The Heights at Park Row fit perfectly with our vision for Central Park to include national and multinational corporations, multifamily living and hospitality,” David Wolff, chairman and president of Wolff Cos., said in a release. “Central Park has proven to be ideal for this high-profile development due to our stringent development standards, immediate proximity to green space, unparalleled access and our location in the Energy Corridor, one of the fastest growing submarkets in the country.”

Parker & Associates Architects of Fayettville, Ark., is the architecture firm for The Heights. Jeff Peden with Cushman & Wakefield of Texas Inc. represented the Worthing Cos. in the transaction.

The new luxury apartment complex will join the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, which acquired 34.5 acres in the park in 2012.

Office construction and job growth in the Energy Corridor is creating the need for upscale multifamily housing in the area, according to David Hightower, executive vice president and chief development officer of Wolff Cos.

More than one in five jobs created since 2011 has been in energy, according to the Texas Workforce Commission, and the Greater Houston Partnership forecasts the sector will add 5,600 new jobs to the Houston area this year.

The construction of luxury apartments has become big business in Houston over the past year, with several new complexes recently announced or under construction.
