Texas Medical Center — West Campus Receives Houston Business Journal’s Landmark Award

Each year, the Houston Business Journal’s Landmark Awards recognize real estate projects and developments that make significant impressions on the Houston landscape, often becoming legacies in their own time. Wolff Companies along with Texas Children’s Hospital, Methodist Hospital and Texas Medical Center, is honored to receive the prestigious award for the new Texas Medical Center – West Campus.

The 170-acre campus located at the northwest corner of the intersection of I-10 and Barker-Cypress is the culmination of years of planning by private and public institutions and the business and real estate community to create a new chapter in Houston’s history. Just as the main campus of the Texas Medical Center is a crowning achievement for the State of Texas, the West Campus will be a crowning achievement of greater West Houston.

The Methodist West Houston Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus, both renowned organizations, serve as anchors for the campus bringing the Texas Medical Center brand of world-class medical care to the growing population of greater West Houston.

Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus serves as the area’s only dedicated suburban pediatric hospital as well as the only dedicated pediatric emergency center in greater West Houston.  Texas Children’s Hospital campus includes a 294,000-square-foot inpatient hospital facility and a five-story, 221,000-square-foot outpatient clinic.  Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus inpatient facility offers 48 intermediate and acute care beds, with an additional 48-bed capacity upon further completion.  The facility also houses advanced imaging services, surgical services and a neurophysiology sleep laboratory.

The Methodist Hospital Systems’ first phase of development on its campus includes a six story, 478,500-square-foot hospital as well as a six-story, 166,000-square-foot medical office building.  With 193 patient beds, the hospital houses 15 operating suites, 26 labor and delivery suites, 28 emergency room beds, two radiation therapy vaults and three cardiac catheterization labs.

Combined, these two facilities represent a 1,100,000 square foot, first phase capital investment of over one-half billion dollars and establish the basis of what will truly be a Landmark in greater West Houston.

Texas Medical Center-West Campus provides the unique opportunity for planning and building from the ground up. Free of pre-existing development constraints, the campus was designed as the “ideal” medical complex incorporating state-of-the-art medical technology, high-quality architecture, extensive landscaping, sign control, environmental sensitivity and superior accessibility.

Wolff Companies commends the Landmark Awards other finalists in the medical category – Harris County Hospital District’s MLK Health Center and St. Luke’s Hospital at The Vintage, both of which are outstanding projects in their own right – as well as all of the Landmark Awards finalist and winners.
