Construction is well underway on Methodist West Houston’s second medical office building.

Within only two years of operations, Methodist West Houston is undergoing several major expansion projects to meet increased patient needs, including a 166,000-square-foot medical office building that is under construction and expected to be completed in mid-2014. Other facility expansions scheduled for construction this year include an intensive care unit, additional inpatient beds and another seven operating rooms. When the hospital opened in December 2010, it had 32 beds, two operating rooms, 336 employees and “a handful” of emergency room beds. Today, the hospital has more than 100 beds, eight ORs and nearly 900 employees and a full-service 18-bed emergency room. In April, Methodist West saw its best financial month, billing more than $15 million in revenue.

Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus, which employs 1,000 people and celebrated its two-year anniversary last March, is currently undergoing expansion plans. The Emergency Center will be growing from 12 rooms to 24 rooms by the end of the calendar year. Also, plans are underway to build an Intensive Care Unit, which is slated to open the first quarter of 2014. Additionally, a 28,000-square-foot Sports Medicine Clinic will open this summer that will be a one-of-a-kind facility providing comprehensive and convenient care for athletes.

“It seems like yesterday we welcomed Methodist West and TMC West Campus to The Energy Corridor, and both are expanding to meet the increasing needs of this rapidly growing business and residential community,” said David Hightower, Executive Vice President/Chief Development Officer, Wolff Companies and Board Chairman of The Energy Corridor District. “Methodist Hospital System, Texas Children’s Hospital and more recently, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, are visionary healthcare providers that recognize the greater West Houston area is not only ripe with patients now but is only going to grow exponentially in the next decade. These expansions are indicative of this growth.”

“The first two years have been very successful and the hospital has been able to serve even more children than originally anticipated across many areas,” said Jenn Backmer Jacome, Manager, Public Relations, Texas Children’s Hospital. “Over the past two years, the hospital has experienced double digit percentage growth in key departments, including, but not limited to radiology, outpatient clinics, the inpatient unit and the Emergency Center – the only dedicated pediatric emergency center open 24/7 for children in the west Houston community.”

At Wolff Companies, we’re thrilled to see our city and businesses grow and thrive, including Methodist West Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus. And we’ve done some expanding as well with the introduction of our newest development in The Energy Corridor – Central Park – that will be the future home of a M.D. Anderson Cancer Center facility.
