David and Mary Wolff Honored for Commitment to West Houston

David and Mary Wolff were honored last Friday by the Houston West Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Economic Development Summit and Star Awards Luncheon for their commitment to West Houston.

The Impact Award, presented to David and Mary in recognition of their active involvement in the Greater West Houston area for the past five decades, has been presented only one other time in the 14-year history of the Star Awards.

David and Mary provided a caring legacy in West Houston with their donation of ten acres to Texas Children’s Hospital’s 55-acre West Campus, an extension of Mary’s dedication to the organization after many years of volunteering with young cancer patients.

Mary currently serves on the Board of the Jung Center and previously served on the Board of St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin. David has served the community as the chairman of the board of the Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO), chairman of the Houston Parks Board, founding director of the Harris-Galveston Coastal Subsidence District and founder and chairman of the West Houston Association.

Additionally, to protect more than 83 native Texas hardwood trees that are over 100 years old, Wolff Companies donated a three-acre permanent conservation easement to Trees for Houston. Located in Wolff Companies’ Westway Park development, the grove includes at least four trophy trees, one of which is the largest Overcup Oak in Harris County. The easement ensures that the specimen trees will always be protected yet be accessible for Houstonians to enjoy.

Wolff Companies has been instrumental in developing West Houston into a thriving community with successful business enterprises and high quality of life for both residents and employees. The company developed Park10, a master-planned 550-acre regional business center in The Energy Corridor, among other Houston developments.

David is credited with naming “The Energy Corridor,” which is now Houston’s third largest employment area with more than 77,000 employees representing over 300 national and multinational corporations including Mustang Engineering, BP America, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Shell Oil Company, Worley Parsons and Foster Wheeler.

Please join us in congratulating David and Mary on this honor.
