Energy Corridor To See Two New Hotels

By KATIE HINDERER

HOUSTON–Western International has plans to build two hotels on a 5.2-acre plot the company recently purchased. The hotels, a Courtyard by Marriott and a Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton, will be built in the Ten Oaks development, which is owned by Houston-based Wolff Cos.

“Hotels such as the Courtyard by Marriott and the Hampton Inn & Suites offer families and business travelers very convenient options, whether they are in need of accommodations for overnight or over a week,” says David Hightower, executive vice president and chief development officer, Wolff Companies.

Located at the corner of Barker-Cypress Road and Park Row, the 135-room hotels will help meet the growing needs of the area around the Texas Medical Center. The development will go up directly across from Texas Children’s and Methodist’s West Houston hospitals.

The Energy Corridor is one of the state’s fastest growing areas. At the beginning of 2014, there were more than 6.6 million square feet of class A office space under development or announced.

Western International’s hotel project is not the company’s first in the area. Previously it built the Residence Inn located in Park 10, another Wolff Cos.’ project, as well as the Marriott Hotel at Interstate 1- and Park Ten Boulevard.

“The strong growth of The Energy Corridor coupled with the expansions of the Texas Medical Center – West Campus make the Ten Oaks site an ideal location to meet the growing demand for lodging in the area,” says Michael Mahoney, president of Western International, in a statement.
